Somatic Therapy for Trauma in Richmond, VA
Explore a body-based approach to processing trauma with Caroline. Core Energetics sessions combine discussion, movement, breathwork, and emotional expression to help you explore how past experiences continue to shape your responses in the present.
The goal is greater autonomy, more capacity to stay connected to yourself and others, and more choice in how you respond.
Trauma Support Through Core Energetics
Healing trauma can create space to reconnect with parts of ourselves we may have pulled away from and discover what life can feel like beyond protection. What might become possible if you had more freedom to be fully yourself in your relationships, your choices, and your life?
A Body-Based Approach to Processing Trauma
Trauma can change how we experience ourselves and the world around us. You may feel disconnected from your body, stay on guard, shut down, or react in ways you don't fully understand. You may understand what happened and its impact yet still feel the effects in the present.
Core Energetics offers a way to explore these experiences through the body. Movement, breathwork, vocal expression, grounding, and other physical practices can bring awareness to what you are feeling and how it shows up in your body.
Over time, we develop a somatic toolbox for moments of dysregulation. Rather than pushing through these experiences, we practice staying connected to yourself and finding ways to move through them with greater awareness and choice.
When the Past Becomes Part of the Present
What once helped us through something difficult can become a familiar way of moving through the world, even when circumstances have changed. You might avoid certain situations, hold back in relationships, struggle to express what you need, or feel overwhelmed or disconnected when something hits close to home. We get curious about what these responses are communicating and how they continue to shape your life.
Reconnecting With Yourself
Who are you when you're not defined by what you've been through? This work creates space to reconnect with your needs, values, desires, and sense of self, and to explore what you want your life to look like from there.
Connecting With Others and the World
Trauma can disrupt our ability to connect, both with ourselves and with other people. And because much of what hurts us happens in relationship, healing cannot happen entirely in isolation.
Relationships can become a place to experience something different. To be seen, to be met, to practice trust, and to discover what connection can feel like without losing yourself. What would it feel like to let yourself be known, while still feeling fully your own?
Your Process, Your Pace
Processing trauma doesn't have to mean revisiting everything at once. You are in control of this process, and we work at a pace that feels manageable for you. You are the expert on your own body and experience. My role is to support you in exploring what feels right for you, while honoring your boundaries and your yes, no, and not yet. You never have to push past what feels like too much.
Begin Exploring
You don't have to arrive with a plan, or a clear idea of what healing should look like. We can start with what is here and discover where it leads. If you're curious about exploring trauma through a body-based approach, a free consultation is an opportunity to talk about what you're looking for and if this feels like a good fit.
